The Midnight Sun

Tromsø, NO, 2024 | July 15th, Polar Day | The summer in Tromsø is pretty special because of the midnight sun. The sun doesn’t set at all during this time, making the city glow with daylight even at midnight. Since Tromsø is located above the Arctic Circle, you can enjoy endless hours of sunshine. It creates a fantastic vibe, perfect for all kinds of outdoor adventures and late-night hangouts. Whether you’re hiking in the beautiful mountains, taking a leisurely walk by the water, or joining in the fun at local festivals, the all-day sunlight makes everything even more enjoyable.

What is the midnight sun?

The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon that occurs during the summer in places south of the Antarctic Circle and north of the Arctic Circle – including Northern Norway.

The earth is rotating at a tilted axis relative to the sun, and during the summer months, the North Pole is angled towards our star. That’s why, for several weeks, the sun never sets above the Arctic Circle.

Svalbard is the place in Norway where the midnight sun occurs for the longest period. Here, the sun doesn’t set between 20 April and 22 August.

Many thanks to Nordic Tours for all these amazing moments!
